The IPhO

What is the Physics Olympiad?

The International Physics Olympiad is a selective competition for high-school students in which every team represents its country. Students compete individually in demanding theoretical and experimental examinations, each lasting five hours.

The IPhO has been held since 1967, when the first edition took place in Warsaw. Morocco first took part at IPhO France 2025, with a national team made up of Nizar Lotfe Allah, Mohamed Bouaouda, Mehdi Meknassi, Zakaria Khalifa and Rayane Fars. Before that, Moroccan students only had the national olympiad (NPhO).

What we have done so far

Training the national team
In the weeks before the 55th IPhO, held in France, we trained the Moroccan national team. Yassir Amazouz, head of the division, welcomed the team when it arrived in France.

Weekly sessions given by division members (theory lectures and problem classes) for the students currently in the NPhO track.

A mentorship system gives every participant coaching tailored to their needs, an approach that proved fruitful at IPhO 2026.

The experimental component
Experimental physics is an often-neglected part of the Moroccan curriculum. We therefore prepare students for the IPhO experimental exams in a format adapted to online learning.
